Well, it took us some time. But the 3rd rule was indeed to share on the blog what we did with our offering. Our small group meets on Sunday nights, and most of us were having a hard time figuring out what to do with our offering. In our discussion about possibilities we decided to pool our offerings together and by ingredients and get together to make apple pies and sell them to friends, neighbors and co workers. We spread the word around about what we were doing and quickly had enough orders to keep us busy for two Saturday's. We had a couple mornings of great fellowships and real quality time working together for a cause! We collected over $400 and donated it to a mission in Southeast Kansas that we thought could really use the unexpected gift! The minister preaches at three congregations every Sunday morning, in addition they help people who need a helping hand! This opportunity has blessed our small group and hope that God blesses those who receive the offering.

Although I am a few states away in KY, my family is still in KS. Both biological family and Church family. Yes, I have a wonderful Church and group of friends I can call family here. But reading these, I’m inspired and I can see your hearts just give because you received. In the same way, I can see your hearts serve because you were served. And in the same way, I can see your hearts love, because you were loved! God has blessed my Church there in Kansas City beyond measure, and I have been blessed just reading the stories! I pray for you all daily and am excited that I have a Church that will give and serve and love and bless... because they know the Truth in Jesus Christ and want to share it with the world!
As it says in John 1:16, “From the fullness of His grace, we have all received one blessing after another.”
Love you guys!~Julie

I folded up the $10 that CRCC had given me and placed it in my wallet. I wasn't sure where/when the opportunity would arise for me to give it away, but I wanted to be prepared when/if it would happen. On Saturday I was in San Francisco and a women was begging for money with her 2 children. She had a sign that said she needed money for a hotel room, and was being berated by a man who was telling her what she needed to do to get God's forgiveness. I folded up the bill and placed it in her hand and told her I knew it wasn't much, but I hoped she could use it. She responded that she was just 8 dollars short of a hotel room and that the "small" amount was absolutely perfect.

I hadn't figured out what to do with the $10 I pulled out of the offering that morning two weeks previously when I was listening to all the stories this past Sunday. I have no way to connect what I decided to do with something that was being said or done--it just came to me. I think God was telling me what I needed.

Sitting in church, I remembered an old friend of the family who is now running the Johnson County Nursing Center. Having visited residents of centers before, I knew that one thing the center can't provide is outside companionship for the people who live there.

I went home, looked up the center information, and made a call. KJ wasn't there, but I was put through to her voice mail, which I learned at 9:00 that night went straight to her cell phone.

Of course she knew several residents that would need a visit. Tonight, Wednesday, I was introduced to Bernice. Bernice is 100 years old and has no relatives or friends to come visit her. She has a state-appointed guardian who comes to see her once a year.

I spent an hour with Bernice learning about her three marriages, four brothers, and a sister. She has lived so long in resident care centers that she never knew when her siblings died--only that she was told about it later. The facilities didn't have the capacity to take her to the funerals.

She is still ambulatory with a walker and is a little hard-of-hearing, but is generally alert and able to carry on a conversation.

I left with the knowledge that I would be back. Not only is it something that people like Bernice need, but I needed the experience. That's the funny thing about giving--you walk away feeling like you have received the gift. In this case, no amount of money could have bought what I was given.

What about the offering? I took Bernice stuffed Snoopy sitting on his dog house decked with lights and a button that, when pressed, played happy music for her.

I was determined to find someone in my path who was at a point of need. After two weeks of carrying the $20 in the CRCC envelope in my pocket (and long after the "deadline" under the rules) I was a bit frustrated that either I was being blind or that it just didn't seem to happen for me.

Then, today, I walked into the Coffee Shop and there at one of the tables was a man whom, from previous encounters, I knew was struggling in every area of his life; a man who rides a bike as his primary transportation and who has too many personal and financial challenges to count. We exchanged greetings and when I asked what was going on in his life, he said that he had lost his job when the company moved too far away for him to commute to by bike and he was needing to take a reading test to qualify for some training that might open up some other job opportunities. He had a money order for $5 but the test cost $25.

Candidly, it didn't strike me for a minute or two and when it did, I wondered how many others had been in my path all along but that I had similarly looked right past by being preoccupied. I placed some more money in the envelope and gave him the envelope including the $20 I had received.

Thank you for stirring us to generosity and greater awareness of the needs around us.

Our neighbor was recently admitted to the hospital with pneumonia and returned home a couple of weeks ago. He wasn’t able to leave the house so I asked if he needed us to pick up anything for him. He said he was fine, he had frozen dinners to eat so he didn’t need anything. After talking with him for a while I found out that his favorite meal was homemade chili and he would live off that all fall and winter if he could, but he doesn’t cook. I used our money to purchase ingredients for chili (and cookies), made a big batch and put it in portion size baggies so he could freeze it and heat up what he wanted. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to spread the love of God!

I am so inspired by all these stories. What an amazing community of believers who are willing to step out in faith and change the world.

Life in Abundance International (LIA) was the recipient of some of this generousity. The money donated by the Fraser's will go to fund care for an orphan in Africa for nearly 5 months. This covers medical care, school fees, food, clothing, and family.

We were so inspired by all the stories of generousity from your church family that we wanted to share the inspiration with all our friends on our blog at blog.liaint.org.

Thanks for loving people in amazing ways and thanks for being a part of changing the world.

God Bless,
J.J. Peterson

We tucked our $5 bill into a pocket of a winter coat that my daughter had outgrown, along with a hand-written note. Although we will not be able to see the expression on their faces, we are sure the family who picks up the coat from the Center of Grace will feel God's blessings. Thanks for the opportunity to do good.
