Jesus ask us to be involved in molding and shaping our culture. Our culture today has in many ways desensitized our minds as to what is too far. I agree we shouldn't marginalize Gods ways with Pop culture vid clips soley on getting a laugh from the crowd. Our culture has a high tolerance and destructive nature to promote a collective misery. Christians have filters but the holes are so wide that we rarely question this dilema "how far is too far". I think you have this right & your adherence to these 3 will keep it real. Possibly, dressing in dirty rags, or covering yourself in handmade sharpie signs declaring John 3:16 standing in the middle of college campus, malls, train stations etc. shouting and screaming at students to repent or go straight to hell could be an example of going too far.

Well I know that we try to always not cross that line when we plan. But I still think it is a great question to ask frequently.
And candidly I missed the mark recently using the Monty Python "Bring out your dead" video. That said, I don't think the error that time was on the clip itself but when I went back and listened to the message I didn't make the point clearly of why it was shown in the first place. It was clearly a case of me being very clumsy with an element and so it came off with people wondering I'm sure. Needless to say if I had it to do over again I wouldn't have used the clip. But overall I appreciate Brain consistently holding the entire team to the above mentioned 3 things to keep in mind.
So for my part I do apologize for using something that I didn't make clear the reason or point of why it was shown.
On the positive side I take every opportunity to learn from experience and next time make sure that I do "due diligence" in using a special element.
For the person who brought up the question, Thank you! I personally appreciate the reminder to be careful with such an important responsibility of teaching from a pulpit.
Blessings!

Well, it took us some time. But the 3rd rule was indeed to share on the blog what we did with our offering. Our small group meets on Sunday nights, and most of us were having a hard time figuring out what to do with our offering. In our discussion about possibilities we decided to pool our offerings together and by ingredients and get together to make apple pies and sell them to friends, neighbors and co workers. We spread the word around about what we were doing and quickly had enough orders to keep us busy for two Saturday's. We had a couple mornings of great fellowships and real quality time working together for a cause! We collected over $400 and donated it to a mission in Southeast Kansas that we thought could really use the unexpected gift! The minister preaches at three congregations every Sunday morning, in addition they help people who need a helping hand! This opportunity has blessed our small group and hope that God blesses those who receive the offering.

Although I am a few states away in KY, my family is still in KS. Both biological family and Church family. Yes, I have a wonderful Church and group of friends I can call family here. But reading these, I’m inspired and I can see your hearts just give because you received. In the same way, I can see your hearts serve because you were served. And in the same way, I can see your hearts love, because you were loved! God has blessed my Church there in Kansas City beyond measure, and I have been blessed just reading the stories! I pray for you all daily and am excited that I have a Church that will give and serve and love and bless... because they know the Truth in Jesus Christ and want to share it with the world!
As it says in John 1:16, “From the fullness of His grace, we have all received one blessing after another.”
Love you guys!~Julie
